Website Creation & Development

The process of setting up this website via Wix was, with a few exceptions, quite easy and straightforward. Originally, I was planning on creating it through WordPress, as I already had some experience with maintaining a website built up using this platform. However, since I decided to try and learn something new, I opted for Wix at the end. I found this web development platform intuitive and easy to use. Even though there are many well-designed and visually appealing ready-to-use templates, I decided to adjust one specifically to my needs. This took much more time than I had originally anticipated, but I believe it was worth it. Very time-consuming was also the process of making the website mobile friendly. This was due to the fact that some of the tools and plug-ins I used through my e-portfolio did not work properly on mobile devices, so I had to retrospectively change some fundamental aspects of the website. Having such a displeasing experience, I learnt to always first check the mobile friendliness of tools and plug-ins before implementing them on a website.
In comparison to WordPress, I found Wix to have a rather limited selection of plug-ins and tools. For instance, in order to display Issuu publications directly on the website, there is only one plug-in available, and it is rather restricted in regard to adjustability. Nevertheless, since Wix is much simpler and easier to use, I can imagine that a lot of people will opt for this tool while developing their website. I personally had a lot of fun with Wix and can recommend it for building conventional websites that do not require any special features or plug-ins.
